About the Event

Writing The Ten-Minute Play

Have you ever wanted to write a play? Have you wondered how to start, how to create engaging characters for the stage, or, ultimately, how to write a script that will keep your audience on the edge of their seats? Relax. Over the last 10 years, as I have endeavored to write 10 minute and full-length plays, I’ve discovered that play writing as well as working with actors and directors is just plain fun. What we write may not find its way to the stage, but along the way we meet other creative types and learn something about ourselves. Of course, if your play is selected to be performed . . .well, watch out! You might write another.

In this workshop held at Ten Fifteen Theater in Astoria, participants will learn basic strategies in writing a ten minute play, practice some writing exercises, learn how to write lines of dialogue, and, hopefully, rekindle that creative spark that resides in each of us.

Ken Henry has been writing plays for the last 10 years. Within the last 5 years, Ken had two short plays staged at the Live Arts Community Theater in Charlottesville, VA. This Spring, one of his 10 minutes plays is being produced and staged in Eugene, OR at the NW10 Festival.  Ken loves creative writing, inspiring others to write, and playing frisbee golf. He also participates in table readings and discussions with PDX Playwrights.
